metering operator

Definition:
role which offers services to provide, install and maintain metering equipment as well as services to measure consumption and generation of energy
 
NOTE:
In most EU Member States the DSO is also metering operator. In case of a specific contractual basis, the contract is mostly with the network operator, or may be with the customer or the supplier. In several countries the role is separated in two roles.

The first role is called metering service provider that is responsible for meter-reading.
The second role is called metering point operator that is responsible for providing, installation and maintaining of metering equipment
